ZFDS having been established in 1967 set up Thirty-One (31) Health Facilities around the country that were fully run and serviced by ZFDS. Some of these Clinics that are in areas that are now easily accessible by road have been handed over to Ministry of Health.
In addition to serving the locals in the community, ZFDS has over the past twenty (20) years been providing medical services to reputable companies situated in Ndola, Copperbelt namely ZESCO Ltd, Bank of Zambia, and Workers Compensations Fund Control Board among others.
ZFDS runs Two (2) AeroMedical Hospitals and One (1) Diagnostic Hub in Ndola, which are NHIMA accredited facilities. The Two (2) Hospitals house recognized ART and Tuberculosis Centres. The Aeromedical hospital formerly called Medical Centres were opened in 1978 and initially used as PATIENT HOSTEL where patients evacuated from rural health facilities were housed after being treated in various hospitals and repatriated after recovering. These patients were looked after by ZFDS and were offered free transport back to their villages either by air or by road. With a change of policy around 1996/1997, such services were waived off and patients who were evacuated had to be looked after by Social Welfare Department within the respective hospital.
It is during this period that the Patient Hostel changed its name to Medical Centre NOW Aeromedical Hospitals and became an income-generating health facility offering the following services:
provides a comprehensive range of medical services including general medical and surgical consultation, general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, orthopaedics and trauma care, eye and dental services, lab services, and imaging such as x-ray and ultrasound scans. They also offer maternal and child health clinics.
specializes in various dental services such as partial and full dentures, crown and bridgework, orthodontic treatment (braces), mouth guards, obturators, denture lining and repair, acrylic veneers and crowns, and appliance repair
offers services including prescription lens checks, lens production and centring, cutting and fitting of lenses into frames, lens and frame cleaning, and frame tightening and aligning
